About This Item

The Mexican Dwarf Crayfish, also known as the Dwarf Orange Crayfish, is a small, peaceful invertebrate that adds vibrant color and personality to freshwater aquariums. Unlike larger crayfish species, these mini crustaceans are community-friendly and can safely coexist with small fish and shrimp. Their hardy nature and low maintenance needs make them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

🦞 Key Features:

  • 🎨 Coloration: Bright orange or rust-colored exoskeleton with slight variations in shade.
  • 📏 Size: Grows up to 1.5-2 inches (3.8-5 cm) when fully mature.
  • 💡 Behavior: Generally peaceful and active, though mildly territorial. They are bottom-dwellers that enjoy exploring, burrowing, and climbing decorations.
  • 🌿 Tank Setup: Prefers planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots, such as rocks, caves, and driftwood.

🌱 Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 5-10 gallons for a single crayfish, larger if keeping multiple.
  • Water Temperature:65-78°F (18-26°C)
  • Water Parameters: pH 6.5-8.0, prefers clean, well-oxygenated water.
  • Diet: Omnivorous – enjoys sinking pellets, algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach), and occasional protein sources like bloodworms and shrimp pellets.
  • Tank Mates: Compatible with small peaceful fish (like tetras and rasboras) and snails, but may eat tiny shrimp. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or larger crayfish, as they may be outcompeted or injured.
